Sutter Group and the team at Project Aloft Star logoXRVZN, a virtual reality training company in the greater Washington, D.C. area, has created a new augmented reality (AR) app. The app, designed for Marriott Aloft Hotels, showcases an annual music artist discovery competition, Project: Aloft Star.

During the competition, bands enter for a chance to win a once-in-a-lifetime prize that includes the chance to record at the legendary Capitol Studios in Hollywood, hundreds of thousands of rewards points redeemable at Marriott International hotel stays, and other perks.

The 2018 competition features the first-ever Project: Aloft Star Tour, a five-city tour celebrating the Universal Music Group’s emerging artists.

The AR app, named after the Aloft Star contest, features a musician’s van en route to Los Angeles, stopping at iconic spots in New York, Philadelphia, Asheville, New Orleans, Denver, and Austin.

The app is featured in Aloft Hotels restaurants and bars, where patrons can use a downloaded app to watch it. Users can point their cell phone cameras or other mobile devices to view the augmented reality display.
